Context
Since its founding in 1964, the NAA has been at the forefront of organized community aquatic activities. An association composed of dozens of public and not-for-profit pools across Montréal, thousands of children and families have benefited from its accessible programs, with many becoming national-level athletes. Over the years, its summer-long Wednesday evening swimming competitions have become a culturally-important tradition for the West Island aquatic community.
As a fully volunteer-run organization, the Northshore Aquatic Association and its member pools have had a significant impact in every community it serves, and contributes to creating opportunities for children to grow, develop and pursue their aquatic sport.
Purpose
The Northshore Aquatic Association’s 60th Anniversary Historical Project aims to digitize historical records of Association, to retrace its origins, to advance its mission and to record the stories of its activities across six decades. This project falls in line with current plans to strengthen its community and participant base in the neighbourhoods served by the NAA.
Furthermore, this project intends to recognize the essential role played by volunteers in the success of the Association’s mission. Through this project, the NAA wishes to thank the hundreds of volunteers who have contributed to its 60-year-long success and service to the community.
