Opening Speech at the 2026 Summer Swim Meet
The following speech was delivered at the 2026 Summer Swim Meet, on July 18th, 2026.
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Leniyo Amayao and I am the Vice-President of the Northshore Aquatic Association.
It is with great pleasure that we meet at Thorndale Pool, for the annual Summer Swim Meet of the NAA.
I would like to begin by extending my sincere thanks to the dozens of individuals who made this day possible: our dedicated meet organizers, swimming officials, volunteers, swim coaches and staff members.
Your continued leadership, community spirit and passion for the sport are what keep this 62-year tradition alive and thriving. Because of you, our activities benefit over one thousand children across Montréal every year.
I also want to acknowledge and thank our partner clubs, DDO Swimming, for their ongoing support. Today, they will be providing bursaries to some of the swimmers here, helping us create new opportunities for our swimmers to pursue year-round competitive swimming.
I would also like to thank Arena Canada. With their support, first-place winners will receive a pair of Arena Tracks goggles.
And I cannot forget Dominos. For two years now, Dominos has been there, alongside us, as a partner of our community.
Summer Swim Meet is a celebration of our community. It’s about bringing hundreds of members of our community together so that we can give children who do not swim competitively in the winter a chance to have fun at the pool, to participate in championship events, and to develop their competitive swimming skills.
Most importantly, today is about encouraging our youth to keep swimming toward their goals. As you watch these young athletes compete—heat after heat—remember: among them may be the future national champion, or even Olympian.
To the swimmers, parents, coaches, and everyone poolside: thank you. Your continued support makes all of this possible—one meet at a time.
So today, let us celebrate our community, our children, and our sport.
And to our swimmers: have fun, swim your hearts out, and remember—always give it your very best.
Thank you, and enjoy the meet!
Leniyo Amayao
